Winter is the time to hibernate but some of our farmers’ markets are still open!
Farmers’ markets are continuing to grow in popularity as a destination to buy local food. According to a recent study conducted by the Greenbelt Farmers’ Market Network, demand for fresh vegetables is up 76% in 2015 (up from 63% in 2009). Not only is demand growing but 29% of farm vendors are also reporting that a greater share of revenues are coming from market sales and 63% of farm vendors report that markets are helping them connect more with other buyers.
During winter you still have to option to support your local farmers and buy more local food by stopping by at a local farmers’ market.
