The Friends of Riverdale Farm has a mandate to enhance the programmes at Riverdale Farm by running The Shop at the Farm, The Farm Kitchen, The Wood Fired Oven and The Farmers’ Market.
The Riverdale Farm Farmers’ Market is unique in that it is situated in beautiful Riverdale Park West on the edge of the Don Valley adjacent to Riverdale Farm which is a 19th century farm dedicated to preserving rare breeds of Farm animals. The market is located in Cabbagetown a unique neighbourhood which functions like a village and gives the Market a special friendly feeling.

There are farmers, growers or fishers at the market. There are 12 caterers, chocolatiers and coffee roaster. A condition for coming to the market is buying from the farmers. Product highlights are heritage vegetables, herbs, garlic, artisanal cheese, organic ice cream, fresh lamb, beef, pork, wild boar, venison, bison, eggs, duck eggs, fresh caught wild fish from Georgian Bay, pasture raised chicken, ducks, wild edible greens, mushrooms, soft fruit and apples.
Coming into season now are tomatoes, Roma, heritage, and beefsteak, sweet corn, new potatoes, peas, carrots, broccoli, beans, peaches, blueberries and currants.
A special sense of community exists at this market. One farmer told me that a customer told her that she looked into her eyes and could see her soul
